Binoy Nazareth Goes on a Gringo Trail to Perú

A Breathtaking Adventure through Perú

Llamas, Lima and leisure are exactly what I want to experience on an unhurried and free recreational trip to Perú. Fulfilling a wonderful wanderlust adventure to Perú, my innate desire travel as an aspiring chef, an adventurer and a footloose and intrepid traveler has led me across innumerable boundaries. I have enjoyed Nature, the kicking of the taste buds when I encounter delightful cuisines and the memorable sights of unique countries. My bucket list is almost filled to overflowing with so many destinations with awesome wonders and a kaleidoscope of sounds and sights.

While the Spaniards call Perú "Virreinato del Perú" and the Incas, called it "Tahuantinsuyo", the dauntless traveler simply calls it Perú, the land of the amazing Incas filled with rich culture and a heritage of an ancient civilization. Perú is located in the western region of South America with Lake Titicaca in the southeast, bordered by Brazil in the east, Columbia in the north east, Chile to the south, Ecuador to the northwest with the Andes and Bolivia to the south east.
Besides my love of mesmerizing cuisines, I am also greatly intrigued by exciting destinations which spell wanderlust, adventure, foodie trails and magical relaxation on beaches. I have more than a dozen things all planned out for my visit to Perú. I wanted to first of all explore the Amazon Rainforest, fly over the mysterious Nazca Lines and go Sandboarding and take off on a Dune Buggy in Huacachina. But I had planned a delicacy discovery after these non-stop breathtaking adventures with a great Lomo Saltado, a meat dish. I was waiting to taste Chupe de camarones, ashrimp cioppino, Anticuchos or brochettes with a side of corn or boiled potato, Tamales or boiled corn with cheese or meat which is wrapped in a banana leaf. The tamales are almost like humitas which have beef, onions, spices, corn, pork, olives, and sugar.

Exploring Peru with a Delicious Touch

With awesome things to do, I also decided to explore the Floating Islands of Lake Titicaca and go hiking through the Colca Canyon. Cuisines from all over the world have always fascinated me and I have made Peru a major bucket list favorite with its fabulous street food. I made it a point to savor Papa a la huancaina, Tacu-tacu which is a pan-fried steak with a topping of rice, fried egg and beans, Papa rellena or stuffed potato, Pollo a la Brasa or Peruvian-flavored roaster chicken and Arroz tapado  or covered rice. I thought that after surfing in Mancora and admiring the rainbow Mountains, I could indulge in the gorgeous much-talked about delicious Lomo Saltado or Sliced beef also known as saltadito or rejuvenate at a chifa known also as Peruvian-style Chinese restaurants with an arroz chaufa or Chinese style rice and an Arroz con pollo, or rice with chicken.

I had chosen Peru as an exciting and breathtaking destination for my bucket list as it has a wide array of offerings. With Macchu Picchu and the Sacred Valley sightseeing, the intrepid traveler can enjoy mountain biking, horseback riding, river rafting and hiking if they have the energy and the inclination. Stop off to relish and savor mouth-watering dishes such as Sancochado which is a fulfilling beef and vegetable broth with yuca or cassava and potatoes. The hearty foodie menu also includes Lomo Saltado, or saltadito which is sliced beef, or you can hop over to Lima and step into an oriental culinary journey at the famous chifas.

Combining the Art of Pleasure and Passion

You can take off to discover Lima, the much-talked about metropolitan city in Peru with its awesome catacombs, cathedrals, shopping, nightlife, museums and non-stop culinary delights. Or the travel-centric aficionado can take in the bluffs at Miraflores and bask in the amazing Pacific Ocean views. The brave hearts can explore an awesome mountain climbing and trekking experience at Cordillera Blanca. The chef in me will definitely try out the Lima dish with Chupe de pescado or fish cioppino, Lima butter bean salad, Butifarras or ham, Causa Limeña or hard-boiled eggs and the delicious Carapulcra or stewed dish of chicken and pork.

Isn’t this an explosive way to holiday? Wow! I am sure I will surely do an exclusive Peruvian adventure! Nature lovers can indulge in bird watching at the Islas Ballestas also known as the  Galapagos Islands. These incredible islands showcase rare sightings of unusual birds, penguins, pelicans, sea lions, whales and dolphins. While the iron hearts can step in to the myriad splendored Amazon Rainforest which opens out an once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The Excitement Continues…

Peru hikes the adrenalin with awesome experiences such as a great wildlife exploration of the Paracas National Reservation or viewing the sand dunes of Huacachina or flying over the Nazca Lines. Relax on the Red beach or rejuvenate at the City Beach. Indulge in a romantic interlude at the paradise Beach or the Party beach or try out your skills at the Surfer Beach. What more do you need to complete a dream holiday? I would love to experience these incredible forages in to the heart of Nature and make a beeline back to town to enjoy the pleasures of a food aficionado. Has anyone tried out the street food of Peru? My taste buds are yearning to try out Peruvian delights and indulge in intoxicating Pisco which is a brandy or Pisco Sour, beer and amazing wines. Take off into a delicious dream with the famous Andes diet and mouth-watering Peru dessert. Go in to a breathtaking Peruvian adventure.
